Questions for the Summerland Pirates
Summerland School 1. How big is your island? (Isis) Smaller then Australia bigger than Fiji and split into two islands.
2. Is your town named Summerland because it is always warm? (Ava) Actually our town is called Henderson and our school name is Summerland Primary because before Summerland came an orchard used to be here.
3. How many kids are in your school? (Henry) Over 500 kids
4. How many grades are in your school? (Ellie) In New Zealand we call them years instead of grades so
year 1s (5 year olds) to year 6 (10- 11 year olds)
5. What are learning pods? Why did you name them after beaches? (Chloe) Learning pods are a group of year 1,2,3,4,and 5, 6(10,11 year olds) classes that are in one area
of the school who look after each other but are in different classes
and we named them after beaches because there are lots of beaches in West Auckland.

6. What is netball? How many people are on a team? (Morgan) Netball is 1 of the famous sports in New Zealand and about 7 or 8 people in each team. Morgan has some follow up questions about net ball. Morgan loves sports, he plays baseball and soccer. How do you play netball? We read you do not dribble the ball, do you pass it all the time? What if another team hits the ball out of your hands, is it a penalty or can they keep the ball?

7. What are you doing to help protect the kiwi? (Everett) We are trying to get rid of the Kiwi's predators - Dogs, Wild cats, Possums, people.
8. Can you give us some information about the kiwi bird? (Violet and Gregory) A female kiwi gives birth to an egg 20% it's own body weight and
the Kiwi cant fly and they can live up to 40 years they also use their whiskers
for feeling in the dark and the Kiwi is nocternal (sleeps in the day wakes up at night) (The Kiwi bird
9. Do you like wearing uniforms? (Madeline) We like wearing uniforms but some people don't. (Our school uniform) 10. Do you have a school mascot? (Emma) NO we don't.
11. What season is it in New Zealand? (Solon) At the moment its going on to winter and it has been raining a lot.
